Adding to menu bar in Word 2007

The menu bar of any Word document opened at my employer's site, has File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Window, Fred, Help.

Clicking Fred brings up a sub-menu, which, when clicked, launches a VB6 app.

2 questions. How was this acomplished in Word 2003. Secondly, how do I achieve something similar with Word 2007.

Ooops - I should have posted this elsewhere. Does anyone know the answers anyway ?
