[2008] 2D graphics

I have just completed a project management tool. You know the kind of thing....projects tasks e.t.c.

The problem is that I have been asked to offer some sort of graphical front end which will allow the user to drag and drop visual representations of tasks and join them together with lines. Basicall a primitive Gant chart type Visio thing.

Needless to say I have no idea how to start as I have absolutly no experience of this sort of thing.

Can any of you guys/gals point me towards any good links/books or tutorials ?
I am not bothered if they are in c# or VB.net.
