[curmudgeonly grump]
*silence*
*more silence*
*even more silence*
Can someone please explain to me why everyone is so obsessed with listening to music at every humanly possible moment?
Why? What's the benefit? It doesn't mean you have great taste in music, it means the opposite. If you have to spend 18 hours a day listening to your iPod then the chances are you've just randomly downloaded half of the internet in the vain attempt to look cool in front of your equally vacuous, fatuous, cretinous friends. You'll never hear the same song twice because there's not enough time in the day, it's mathematically impossible.
That last track from Super Ting Horse Cage passed you by completely because you were too busy dropping your change all over the floor of the bus you've just stumbled onto.
Death From Above. That is not a music recommendation, that is what awaits you if I ever see you wearing some white headphones in my immediate proximity.

Yes, but apparently without punctuation.

See you are on the IN-TER-NET or cyber space or that browser thingy, punctuation isn't an option.

I saw a guy once wearing white headphones on the tube station. I looked carefully and I saw the headphones weren't connected to anything.
Don't exactly know what to make of that, except Coco Pops.

Same here
I bought a 2Gb memory for my phone, and put some MP3s on it, but I hardly ever listen to it.
I don't listen to radio at all, they always play the same thing all day !
The only time I listen to music is at home, rarely, and usually music I find on YouTube.
The purpose of headphone is to "shield" the music so no one else around can hear it... at least from my understanding that's why headphones were invented. BUT... I travel a lot on the bus and subway, and 90% of the time I CAN HEAR THE *insert swear word* MUSIC !!! and it bothers me like hell ! Once I was like... hmmm I can hear a train passing by... there are no trains around... weird... ow... it's just a guy listening to techno/trance music passing by me....
The worst is when those teen-aged (I would say what race, but I don't want to be called a racist) guys, play music on their phone on speakerphone, max volume, and waaay distorted, add to that the ambient noise of bus/subway/cars, the only thing that you can actually hear is the distorted beat, and they hide the phone/mp3 player so he thinks we cannot tell who is doing it... but everyone knows who is doing it... and no one dares (including me) telling him to stop! or to listen on the headphones !!

I had two guys on the train this morning blasting their dance/trance music all over the carriage. One was a white young bloke, guessing in his late teens, and the other guy in his mid twenties, also white. I've seen black people do it, I've seen asian people do it. Regardless of what race, they manage to do one thing right: Irritate people beyond tolerable. Something has got to stop.
And just for something to think about, it was the guy in his mid twenties blasting out the music. The other guy was just listening along, making comments on how that tune was so "phat".

I know some people in a cube environment who wear earphones to signify that they can't hear you, so don't talk to them. Perhaps the earphones are a means of attaining solitude in a non-solitary space.

How could you tell that the guy was saying "phat" and not "fat"?

Just like you know when someone is saying they're, their, or there - you listen to which the sentence was said, and make a judgement accordingly.
Also, I happen to know what "phat" means (it's a dumb way of saying awesome. At least it adds variation to that already stupid word - I meant awesome that time), so I doubt he'd be calling the song "fat".

It's an awsome way of saying "pretty, hot, and tempting".

I have a friend who has gathered literally dozens of three-ring binders full of CDs full of MP3s he has downloaded over the years. There is no possible way he will ever live long enough to listen to every MP3 in his possession.
Someday when he has passed on his children will fight over who gets to throw the whole bloody mess into the dumpster.
