Site stuttering/slow
I've been experiencing lots of hiccups (in terms of website performance, not esophageal) today... it'll take a thread a long time to load sometimes, and sometimes it'll load really fast.
Anyone else, or is it just a vast global conspiracy against me?

Re: Site stuttering/slow
it seems the whole JM network is having problems. The site was out for a few hours. And it is extremely slow when it is working.

Seems faster now. Damn was out for hours is unheard of. Usually no more then 15-20 mins.

Yeah, I couldn't view vbforums when I tried this morning. Maybe someone was working on the server or something like that?

Re: Site stuttering/slow
All Internet.com sites were down so it must have been something big like a power outtage or mission critical hardware failure?
I'm sure JM has redundant internet connections and battery backup but that will only last for a short time if power is out. Plus, they have several servers so if it was a single server then all sites wouldnt go down if they have a web farm but who knows.
We will all be in wonder until Brad or Joe posts tomorrow morning on what the issue was.

Re: Site stuttering/slow
This problem may be related to the snag(s) referred to in this thread :-
During the period Jan.7 - 10th I was contributing to a thread (
http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...1&goto=newpost) along with others. Although my settings are for instant e-mail notification, on several occasions others contributed to the thread but I received no e-notification. Roughly half of the expected notifications did not reach me.

Re: Site stuttering/slow
Thank you Aaron,
I did check those settings. "Instant E-Mail Notification" was still correctly set.
Your immediate above post was e-mail notified without a problem, but as above described I found that several were not notified.
It would seem that there may have been been a server glitch early in this new year. Maybe the VBForum system will now settle down into its normal efficient and trouble-free self.

Re: Site stuttering/slow
Hi MartinLiss,
Yes, I did check that notification messages were not being classified as SPAM by my ISP, nor by my own SPAM filters. It simply seems to have been the case that the messages were not received at all.
I confirmed this point to the then active thread participants, but apologise for not having done so to this more general forum thread.
Notification of your above post was correctly received instantaneously, or very close to that. So one hopes this was just a passing glitch when the server(s) were having problems a few days ago.

I bet they were trying to download Windows 7 but it ate all of their bandwidth and killed their servers. Not that they installed Windows 7 on every server things should be much faster.

Re: Site stuttering/slow
Windows 7 download went smoothly. In fact, it has been running smoothly too!
Sorry everyone - I should have replied sooner. We had a hardware failure last week that caused the outage. It ended up being a bit more complex than initially expected and did bring a lot of our sites down. In brief, it was primarily at a router point, and thus why access to the sites seemed to go away. The issue was resolved and I'm sure a plan will be in place to avoid a similar problem in the future.
I was aware of the problem at the time (a few people called, IM'd, and emailed), plus I too was actually online trying to get to sites .
Brad!

Re: Site stuttering/slow
I am still not getting every e-mail notification of a post to this thread. Brad's above was notified Ok, but the previous three were not.
This may be a separate problem and not a feature of the recent outage - which is now fixed anyway?

Re: Site stuttering/slow
Outage issue was totally unrelated to forum operations. I only related to 'getting to the forum'. Notifications are totally specific to forum operations.

Re: Site stuttering/slow
Site always seems real slow in the mornings. Guess the server cant really handle the load. Nights the site is fast since no one is on it lol.
Perhaps its time to upgrade the server
