    [SERIOUS]Installing Flash Player!

I messed up my laptop at work.

When opening a page with a Flash animation, the animation is just missing. It doesn't prompt me to install Flash player, it doesn't say that Flash isn't installed, nothing. There's just a little red "X" where the player is supposed to be.

I then tried downloading an EXE to install the control, but this didn't work either. The control is just missing!!! According to the IT guys, there was a policy on the previous domain we were on that stopped users from installing ActiveX controls. (This is what they call it...) The new domain doesn't have this setting though, but still I can't install the friggin' player!

I downloaded the EXE for Firefox's Flash Player and it worked perfectly. I can view Flash animations in Firefox, but I would really like to use IE.

Anyone have any idea on how I can get it installed? Perhaps using VB or regsvr32?

What URL did you use to get the Flash EXE?

I tried the Adobe site (the "Get Adobe Flash Player" button) as well as softpedia. Both of the downloaded files "installed", but neither worked.

If you go to 'Manage add-ons' (in the Tools menu for IE 6, Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or disable Add-ons for IE 7)
you'll find a list of add-ons that are available.

Can you find the Flash add-on there?
I believe it's called 'Shockwave Flash Object'.
    If so, is it disabled?

I wonder if there are leftover restrictions. It's common on many office networks to have apps that sit in your system tray that monitor what you're using and installing. Got something like that going on?

Do you have any other flash type programs (add-on) installed on your pc? They could be conflicting with the flash player and stopping from working. I had this problem when trying to install Flash CS3.
