4 Letter Minimum Search!!!!
I'm sorry but this is very frustrating. If any one of my search words have LESS than 4 letters, the search won't go through. At least make the limit 3!!!! On a programming message board, where so many a syntax are 3 letters long, why impose this silly limit??

Theres been some discussion on this. I think they did it to prevent over loading the server, or something like that.

I think this makes John's unspoken point well - do we really want people searching for VB and pulling up 65536 hits or whatever?

That's right Kzin.
It would better if there were more constructive ideas instead of this list of problems. Those who search know very well what is difficult to find.
I don't know what's behind PHP, only some basic ideas, but how about making a sort of a list/database of posts categorized by these three/two letters words?
List1 (CGI): posta, postb, postc,...
List2 (???) :....
List3 ...
Then the user could type for example List1 AND List5 which would return the posts containing List1's word and List5's word.
Silly idea maybe. There would be many lists then
You have my permission to say this idea is a stupid and a foolish idea.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. There are loads of words to do with VB that are only 3 letters. It is frustrating when it keeps popping up this crappy message about having to be 4 letters long when trying to frind stuff on the MOD function for example. Or "ADO Update" or "SQL" or anything. It's dumb. Nobody wants to search for "VB", that would just be dense. All we're asking - well, all I'm asking - is that the limit is either reduced to 3, or there is a list of acceptable 3-letter terms that can be checked by the search script. It's not brain surgery and just seems pointless; blindly disregarding anything because of it's length is foolish.
Imagine the uproar if you did this sort of thing to your clients. "No, sorry Mr Bloggs but you can't search for anything with less than 3 letters because it would return too many results..." Won't be clients of yours much longer will they.

Ahh yes!
Just my point in my post!
But i can see why it has been done! Remember when we couldnt search at all?
I persume it was done because of the amount of traffic the server was getting!
Perhaps John did it as a simple way of blocking words like: the, and, who etc.
But some exceptions should be made like MP3, SQL etc.
Even check out Googles way of getting rid of inappropriate words!

Is it possible to do it Googles way?
It seems very affective!
