    Resolved [RESOLVED] .net Vs Other

My name is Vivek. I am from delhi,India. I am doing a degree in Computer Applications(BCA). I am operating PC with Window OS since 6 years and i am always hungry to gain more and more knowledge of computers. I have learn C,C++,VB programming and SEO,Flash through self-study.

I am mainly interested in application, web programming, XP knowledge in depth.

VB was the first language i had learn with VB 6 black book. I really liked VB and found it quite easy in syntax. I learnt C,C++ during my BCA Degree. I have also developed many programs with VB. Now I have lost touch with VB for 1 year but still do somebasic programming.

Now I want to move on to .NET Technology. The question is of language ?

VB.NET OR C# OR JAVA (For Application)

ASP.NET OF PHP (For Web Development)

Apart from programming i also like to solve PC problems related to OS,virus. Using XP tools gpedit.msc, regedit etc. which is also called troubleshooting.

Is A+ good for it ?

Its basically for hardware i think.

    Re: .net Vs Other

The problem with your first question (about what language) is a big problem... it's been hashed over and over and over again (just search these forums for VB vs C#) ... It's like asking if you should use a wrench or a hammer when you need to tighten a screw.... Generally the advice I like to give is to use the right tool for the right job. In computers, that means, determine what it is that you want to do, then determine what the right language for that career path is. IF you want to get into game development, I wouldn't both with VB.... That would be C/C++ .... unless you want to use XNA (which is based on C#) for the xBox. So it really all depends on what you want to do.

    Re: .net Vs Other

I have already gone through VB vs C# thread. I have already mentioned that I am mainly interested in application, web programming.

Though I have really liked VB. I have created many programs and small games in VB with only few lines of code. If I were told to develop those in C/C++ it would have been very difficult for me and would have taken much time.

Does C# has RAD feature ?

Is C# good for Windows Applications ?

You can use a screw driver to drive most screws in. You can use a hammer to drive all screws in

At the same time, given enough duct tape, one can build a sound house.

Still doesn't make it right.....or practical.

While the above advice of using the right tool for the right job applies to all language1 vs language2 scenarios, keep in mind that ASP.NET beats everything else. This is a law. Set in stone. Fundamental universal concept.

And then mendhak work up and started writting WinForms apps loving every minnute of it.

If you hammer in screws with a hammer then they wont hold as secure. Thus being more prone to falling out or not holding. I wouldnt want to write a program that way

Just put a twist on it as you hammer.

Yes, you can develop with Office very well actually (RobDog is one of our resident experts in Office programming). As for IE... well the only thing you'd program for that is an ActiveX Object which I guess you can do... but would you really want to? Unless, of course, you're talking about making websites in which case the answer is a yes.

Yes, practically any language can support creating objects as its just a matter of passing the program id and class name.

    Re: [RESOLVED] .net Vs Other

    Thanks.

So, in march I will be having my 3rd sem exam of BCA(Computers Application).

After 3rd sem exams i would like to do a course on some specific technology. I choose C# .NET and also ASP.NET as i love MS WINDOWS and Microsoft technologies.

Though I have learn everything through self-study but his time i will select a Institute NIIT (Microsoft's Best Training Partner is ASIA).

I will also take some advice from Indian Engineers as they know the scope of technology in Indian IT market.

How is COMPTIA A+ For hardware and OS ?
