Breaking News! Santa exists!
Teacher sacked for telling class 'Santa doesn't exist'
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article....&in_page_id=34
Well, what can you say to that teacher except Merry Christmas...
Mind you, getting sacked for telling the truth is nothing new.

So, someone who is paid to educate children, is fired for telling them a fact of life? Gosh. This is a perfect example to add to my long list of examples that americans are not fit to have children.

Hey, you can't prove that Santa DOESN'T exist am i rite?
So ergo, it can go either way. Same with Jehova/Allah.

Re: Breaking News! Santa exists!
Actually, it is quite easy to prove, based on the information we are given about santa, to prove that he doesn't exist. For one, noone has ever actually received a gift from this santa character. Every child who ever got a present that was labelled santa had two parents wishing they could take the damn credit. As for living at the north pole.. satellite imagery?

Is this part of that newfangled 'Santa Denial' movement?

[whisper]It happened in Oldham... England. Of course, that doesn't atually prove Americans are fit to have children though, just that we're not either[/whisper]
At present there is a distinct lack of christmas puns in this thread. Mendhak will doubtless sleigh us with one any minute. I just hope it's not to Rude (olph).

No you're wrong, it's quite easy to prove. The fact we can actually track evidence of when the Santa Claus character was created (early 20th century) will show this. Added to which it ties to roughly the same time as Christmas starting to be celebrated. In 19th century Christmas was NOT celebrated as we do now, it was simply yet another Bank Holiday, nothing special. Only in modern times do we celebrate it...capitalism at work

Re: Breaking News! Santa exists!
Speaking of Santa Claus....
I don't have any children (yet), but I am torn as to whether or not continue this particular "tradition" when I do have some.
I mean, kids are pretty observant these days. How are you going to explain to your child why he/she got what they wanted, but their friend didn't? Also consider that the other child is "nicer" than your child. What is the explanation? How do you explain why some kids don't get anything for Christmas, even though they haven't been bad?
I mean, without Santa, is Christmas actually "ruined" for children? Do kids really care about Santa, or just care that they get what they want from Santa?

Suppose it's good for kids to believe in something. Besides they'd probably be ridiculed by the other kids for NOT believing

Re: Breaking News! Santa exists!
My view is pretty simple, let the child believe what they want, but don't lie if they ask.

Re: Breaking News! Santa exists!
I reckon Santa is just a invention of the church to make Satan seem like an evil guy.

Re: Breaking News! Santa exists!
Santa is derived from a combination of several Pagan and Scandinavian mythological figures.
