    Legal Signature Online

I am working with a loan company right now and they have pdf forms that need to be filled out by customers. I suggested making a web form online to get people to sign up easier but the only problem with that is there is no way to get a legal signature online. Does anyone know a legal way to get a signature online?

I'm not sure about the correct answer.

But even if it were possible, it can always be spoofed, as far as I can say

Most places I've gone to that required a signature did the "electronic signature" route where they had an input box that asked them to type their name and a checkbox to say that they are signing it.

I've seen a few financial companies in the USA do this so I assume this is a valid practice but I'm not a lawyer.

From a technical point of view my company has been asked to sign NDA (Non disclosure agreements) in the past and this has allways involved printing, signing, scanning and sending back.

However I'd consult some legal person on this.

I work for the one of the biggest telecom companies in the world. The amount of paperwork we use costs the company mega bucks so they decided to test out this method. It was pulled rather quickly though.

While it made financial and economic sense more customers felt they did not sign a proper contract and took matters to the small courts. This cause more of a head ache than paper did.

Until concrete legislation comes out I would avoid electronic signing.

That's a real shame but I can understand that. I'm not really sure what a good solution would be.
