    Smile [SERIOUS] Application Deployement Meeting

MODS PLEASE READ. I know this is in the wrong section, could we please postpone it's removal from CC for a few hours, just for a bit of exposure .

    Hi All!

In a couple of hours I am going into my first ever Application Deployment meeting, where we (myself, my boss, and the audience of my app) are going to sit down to talk about when, how etc the app will be rolled out.

Is there anything in particular I should do/say? What are your experiences and whats the best bit of advice you have for me.

I will usually be able to blag something, however this is for my college project, it is important that I take minutes, over come objections etc.

    Many Thanks

Talk about the following (listed in no particular order):

    - User support (eg. by phone/email/website)
    - Patch delivery (aftersales updates - how to make them available)
    - Documentation
    - Bug tracking (bugzilla for instance)
    - Platforms supported (what OS/hardware are you prepared to install it on?)
    - Security
    - Intellectual Property
    - Licensing
    - Testing cycle
    - £££ Price (managers seem to think this is important)
    - Coffee and biscuits
I don't live here any more.

    - Documentation - Good point
    - Bug tracking (bugzilla for instance) - We have a similar in house system, but worth mentioning
    - Platforms supported (what OS/hardware are you prepared to install it on?) - Web based, but again, I might go into how it will work etc.
    - Security - Yes, will attempt to talk about that
    - Intellectual Property - Audience (my colleagues) are aware that the data belongs to the company.
    - Licensing - In house, none required
    - Testing cycle - Yes, I will talk about testing/teething problems etc.
    - £££ Price (managers seem to think this is important) - In house, I develop for salary
    - Coffee and biscuits - Milk and cookies?

Thanks Wossy, gave me a whole load of stuff to discuss Thank You.

    Any more?

    Hi mate,

Generally just be confident and know your app inside out, and be prepared for any snotty questions from those types of managers - hopefully you won't get any.

I also think it depends on what kind of audience it is. Taylor it to the type of audience. For example, if they are a bunch of directors dressed in £1000 suits then talking about price and timescales is key and they probably don't need to know that your app uses SHA512 password encryption - if you see what I mean.

When I did my dissertation Viva at uni (presentation about the project), looking back my project was not highly technically advanced, but I was confident and I knew it inside out and the audience got that impression and I ended up getting top marks for it. If you see my point on that!

    Good luck!
    Chris

    Re: [SERIOUS] Application Deployement Meeting

I am a confident person, so getting up and speaking about the app I have built is not going to be difficult. Under question, yea, I would know my app inside out.

My boss and my superior (programmer) are both very technically minded, but I am going to assume the audience (two of my colleagues) are not, only so I do not bombard them with the different use of technologies etc.

This is just a brief meeting to discuss implementation, I still want to drag my college lecturer into my place of work to present my application in front of her, perhaps another lecturer and my boss and superior, now that really will kick some arse .

    Thanks 182, keep 'em coming...

On the basis that you, hopefully, have finished the meeting now, how did it go?

    Re: [SERIOUS] Application Deployement Meeting

    Yes just finished.

It was good, not exactly what I expected, but a good experience none the less, I did indeed raise those applicable points woss and 182 gave, plus a few of my own which was good.

We have agreed a deployment date, which means I have to stop playing poker and get making last minute changes etc, then its go go go.

Thanks for all your suggestions, continue to post if you desire, would be good for future reference.

Mods, you can move this to 'Application Deployment' if you feel appropriate

His app is an intranet-based Texas Hold'em simulator.

Is the application that complicated or is the infrastructure that difficult? Intranet app or third party app?
