    Online catalog/shopping system

I'm not sure where to post this, but as the system I'm looking for should be written in php, I thought here would be ok. (Mod, feel free to move)

Just like wordpress for blogging, phpBB for forums, sugar for crm's, etc I'm looking for a system that I can use for selling your products online.

One should be able to browse products by category or searches, put them in a shopping cart, pay for it, etc.
Hoping the system support multi languages and written in php.

I was going to (probably still will) create a system like this msyelf, but if sth really good (and free) like wordpress, etc out there I first want to look into that.

Any well known and used software?

Google'd around. Seems to be a lot of good one's around (at a price)
    Multilingual support not so popular.
Seems most of the world still believe the biggest market is for english speakers.

And am I the only one to be lured to a site who'se free software actually means free trial? Anyone ever paid for a trial? aiya

As you said Zen-Cart and osCommerce are very popular.

IMO I think you should create your own. Otherwise your just going to spend a lot of time trying to understand the code and hack it to add features, such as your langages requirement, or another example: adding a new payment gateway.

At least then you could do it exactly how you want, you'd understand it fully and it's something for the portfolio. It shouldn't be too hard to get a basic one off the ground with the features you said above.

    Just my thoughts!
    Chris
