Not quite. Since we don't expect to be held accountable for our actions of more than a few years ago, we fail to understand other cultures that have longer memories. A failure to communicate arising from a failure to comprehend is never a glass half full. Our failure to understand our own past, as well as the motivations affecting our present leaves us significantly less able to respond appropriately in some arenas.
