what does spread around mean. i don't seem to be able to add rep's to anyone.

As fas as I am aware, you need to give rep to a number of distinct people before you are able to give to the same person again. That way you can't keep building up one person's reputation. I forgot what the number of distinct people is, but I have 10 in my head for some reason.

The "spread" is set at 6 members. So you can not give to someone again until you rep 6 others.

Why would you want to defeat the purpose of Reps.
It only takes looking out for good posts when you are posting to come across a well deserved quality post.

I don't want to defeat anything. But ...
If one deals with a few posters only and wants to rate more than one of theirs quality posts, why force him/her to rate others when he/she has nothing to deal with these?

You shouldnt be rep'ing just for the sake or rep'ing and covering the spread. You can easily search or like I was saying when you come across posts while posting, see a post that was helpful to someone else or had that extra something, give them a rep regardless if you were involved in the thread or not.

I'm just saying dont go around rep'ing for the sake of rep'ing and covering the spread.

Why 6? Two or three would be good with a little software to watch for groups of people rep'ing each other for the heck of it. Or set some temporal range with a limit per that range.

Brad felt 6 was good and seems to have worked fine for a long time now. It used to be 20 in the beginning so be glad it was lowered.

Haha! Just a dummy joke suggestion that causes admin reacts seriously.
I don't think anyone will take time to do that stupid thing, so you don't need to worry and spend time trying to catch them.
If you can catch someone doing that I think you should ban them permanently because of their stupidity of wasting time.

You would be suprised what has gone on with reps before. They would take your post seriously because its not appearant that you are joking.

And for the record, they are monitored and we have had very strong discipline handed out in the past.
