It is the old belief that if you name something, usually bad/evil/wicked/unwanted, then it comes along.

Consequently a variation of the name is used, or a nickname.

Although the new name might raise up memories.

For example when others call you klegg, I always call to mind a cover image
from a Judge Dredd story with the mercenary Klegg's.or should that be Kleggs'
