    Fear - for Sale

Worst point decline, global warming, etc. Can our government function without selling made up fear?

It was the worst point decline, but percentage wise it wasn't much.

Global Warming is a natural event that occurs every 100K years.

Our Government and Wall Street weren't smart enough to see hundreds of 800 lb. gorilla's entering the room, but if "they" don't get $700B "they" know what will happen.

We are only motivated by fear. Lacking fear, we excel at complacency.

Don't let the North and South Poles loosing sheets of ice, or warning from the vast majority of scientists fool you.

It's all made-up fear from Government Liberals trying to get you to vote for them.

Absolutely, just look at Al Gore using this Global Warming issue to get back into office ... oh wait.

i was attempting to say that gov't has declared that this natural event, global warming, is "our" fault.

no doubt we will be blamed for the poles swapping also.

To be fair, it's not just about votes. There's also the noble cause of destroying capitalism...

    My personal favorite:
Well every issue has some people who try to tack a political agenda on top of it.

Regardless of side agendas, our key argument is whether excessive CO2 increases the Greenhouse effect above normal levels. Vast majority of the Scientists agree that this is the case.

Evaporating huge reserves of hydrocarbons (oil and coal) into the atmosphere probably heavily contributes to that.

Now I agree, I can't stand some of the dumber liberals. Those who believe in electric cars that still uses coal generated electricity, not to mention the toxic metals needed to create the giant car battery. Or those people who support subsidising the Corn Ethanol over using Oil, saying that somehow it's carbon neutral (it isn't factoring the inefficiencies, cost of farming and transport).

The solutions are simple, but hard to enact:
    1) Population control (Encourage and reward for fewer children per family).
    2) Reduce number of cars on the road (various methods here), and reward higher efficiency.
    3) Cheap, fast, numerous trains for public transport.
    4) Control cow flatulence with bioengineering (yes this is a major CO2 contributor because of the demand for beef).

You don't need to stop all CO2 sources, just reduce it to a managable level so that the Planet can absorb it back into the Earth's crust and biology.

Seems that the creators of the latter poster couldn't think of a suitably stereotypical face for the EU guy.

Well there you go! Another misconception. The major source of cow methane comes from the other end. It's cow burps, not flatulence. Though I admit that the latter is much more entertaining, it is not the primary culprit.

Sarcasm is something hard to convey over text.

I think I was rather more honest than sarcastic. It really is a visual I'd rather not visualize.

I was reading an article the other day about how they reckon they can recuce it by changing the diet of the cow.....

I have read that, too. Did it have something to do with attaching a balloon to the first stomach of a cow to trap all the gas so that it could be quantitatively measured?

There's also research underway into Kangaroos. Kangaroos, believe it or not, don't fart due to a bacteria in their stomach which prevent the gaseous build up. The idea is that if they can introduce it into cows' stomachs it will have a similar effect.
