Resolved [RESOLVED] Need to restrict contents and images in signatures

Do you think we need to restrict size, contents and images put in members' signatures.

Some members add a too large "rubbish" images in their signatures, that makes the page takes too much time to load and it also make the forums have less professional look and feel.

Look at my tricky signature. Just let you view it. You will see a very large blank area at the bottom. I will remove it soon.

Edit: the large blank area was removed.

Re: Need to restrict contents and images in signatures

You can restore your signature, we are well aware of how annoying that kind of thing is.

We do restrict the size and content of signatures. I personally alter (or ask the member to alter) about 5 to 10 a month, I'm not sure how many the other mod's/admin's do.

Just like with posts we don't always notice issues immediately - and due to the nature of signatures, we spot the content less easily than with posts. The size is awkward to determine, as it depends partly on monitor size etc, so we may not notice as much as people with less screen space. As most of us have high-speed connections we don't tend to notice large file sizes, but are aware of how annoying it can be.

If you have noticed something in a signature that you think isn't appropriate then feel free to contact a moderator/admin via PM, and we will happily look into it. The same goes for issues anywhere else, but for posts the "Report" icon to the left of the post is typically the quickest way to get us involved.

Every time I see a long signature I send them a PM that says "Your signature is a little long so I need to ask you to shorten it. You can use mine as a guide to the maximum allowable length".

I usually send the kind of PM that Martin is referring to 3 or 4 times a month. Invariably to newer members who are aware of the signature policy that we have in place.

You can always turn off the display of signatures via your control panel. I dont display sigs, avatars or images so the site loads a bit faster.
