Looking for a Partner in game Programming
Let me first Introduce myself, my name is Matt Bodenheimer, I am Software salesman with small company in Melbourne, FL. I am writing this letter today in hopes to hear from Entrepreneurs. I have an idea to make to write a Text Based Football game. Now the first thing you are going to tell me is “there is now money in those games matt…” That is so wrong. I have spoke to 4 Developers, and spoke to them in confidence that they would tell me their sales numbers if I put them on a chart with no order. So below you will find the 4 games and there sales not in any order.
1) OOTP2 (Out of the Park Baseball) 1500 * 30 = $45,000
2) FOF2 (Front Office Football 2) 4300 * 30 = $ 129,000
3) Championship Manager (Soccer) 1800 * 30 = $54,000
4) Baseball Mogul 2000 2400 *30 = $72,000
Now I know that surprised you, More and more text games are coming each year, People are just sick of the Big Outfits like EA Sports, not Patching there games and giving 0 customer Support. I know a little VB and am learning everyday more and more, but I am not a programmer I am a Salesman and a Marketing man. I know what sells and I know how to sell it. I am blessed in that area. I also have plans for a ultimate text based Football game, I also feel I don’t have the time in order to learn vb or v c++ good enough, before this genre of games runs dry. I have worked for Sierra with FBPRO 98 and with Microsoft with NFL Fever 2001 before it was cancelled, so I know the timetables and the length. I will not go into detail of my idea; the last time I did a company stole my idea and sold it (Tried to battle it in court, I lost L). All I will say is this. If you fit the below requirements.
1) Love Sports (This is a must you might be the best Programmer in the world but if you don’t love sports, it will hurt your in the long run)
2) A programmer with a complete knowledge of the VB language.
3) Most have time to take on a project of the magnitude (I will talk more about this with each applicant.)
4) Must be on the same page with me in terms of what we both want out of the project.
5) Must be accessible (VIA ICQ OR AIM OR SOMETHING, I am always on and since we wont be in the same room, we most communicate extremely well)
6) CANT QUIT (I understand if a life crisis comes up or we don’t get along, but if you just get tired of it that’s BS)
In return you will get this from me
1) 100% Support
2) A website for the game and message board to attract potential customers and ideas
3) 50-50 of all profit and decision making
4) I will handle the pressing of cd’s and distribution
5) I will design the game but am very willing to adjust it to make you happy
6) I will personally guarantee that you will make a profit. (I will make sure you get paid, and paid 1st)
FOR Example
You would get all the profit until X amount of dollars are made, so for instance if we only sold 500 copies (Which would be horrid) we would make a total of 15,0000 after 1500 in expenses roughly that leaves 13,500 we might say that the 1st 10,000 is yours well in the 1st 500 copies you would make 10,000 me 5,000
The reason I am explaining pay so much is cause that is what is important to you guys, I want you to get paid. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other Questions.
This is just the start of a major project I am looking to bring on a Partner/Programmer within 30 days, and start the project in 45 to 60.
Thanks,
Matt Bodenheimer

Let me say this
Pvdvg,
Let me say this, I never said money wasnt important number 1 secondly I said dont think its going to be a quick buck, it is work and hard work.
And about a publisher I already have that taken care of. Look I cross my T's and dot my I's before I go recruiting.
Anyways, the reason I said what I said is because I have had at least 10 15 to 16 year old kids that no nothing about sports that just want to make money, cause they think it will be easy, then when I explain it they back down.
Thanks for you comments

Most demon programmers nowadays tend to be the 15-16 year olds and, unfortunately, as a by-product tend to know little about sport. No-one can know everything.
You may have to find a compromise. You don't need a sports buff to code the game and a programmer's going to be crap at injecting the sporty feel to the game. We always are.
Find a collection of people with overlapping talents. Might make the job easier...

Hi Simplymattb,
Just a thought here!
Why are you using vb to write the program, surely you would be better writing the code in Visual C++. VB for gaming code is slow, VC++ would run alot faster and smoother.

If it's a text based game it shouldn't really matter so much what you write it in. VB enables you produce code quickly and easily. I think VC++ would be a bit of overkill.

Yeah your probably right there,
i was just thinking that if he sets the game up like championship manager etc, vc++ might be handy for the options at the start of the game,
ie: Play the game as manager and just manage the team with no viewing of the game which will be okay in the text format.
But if the user wants to view the action and manage the team during game play the vc++ may be better. As like the other games like premier manager/ championship manager etc, the viewing the game graphics were totally crap, and therefore most people played as just viewing the results.
But i think the viewing the game option is great if the graphics were good.
Just a thought!

But then youd have to throw a dozen artists into the mix, further cutting up the paycheck =).
