Needs Desperate Advice
I am 16 years old and I have a huge problem. My older brother, who is 26 years old and lives with his girlfriend, dumped the responsibilty of his dog on me. He visits his dog less than 3 hours a day, and the dog is being neglected by his abscense. I do not mind taking care of her, but she needs my brother emotionally. My parents refuse to do something about this situation and try avoiding dealing with it because the only option seems to be sending her to a shelter (but not a kill shelter of course), which would just be more traumatizing for the dog. What should me or my parents do?

Is the problem that your brother and his girlfriend cannot keep his dog where they live?? Landowner restrictions mabye? You should probably discuss with your brother the dog's needs, and see if you can work something out. If not, then mabye you can just adopt her for awhile?? Anyway, it seems that there's alot of animal people on here judging from posts I've read. Got 3 dogs myself. Good luck and please let us know what happens

Aww screw it. I didn't really want to fool with it anymore anyhow.

I'm no expert, but the dog may just be insecure for a while. She may be more relaxed after a while, especially if you smother her with affection (not food, but playing etc.). One of mmy dogs was out of sorts for about a month when we took her from Scotland to Canada, she's a very sensitive dog, now she's fine and having a great time. By contrast the other dog didn'teven seem to notice we where in a new house.
The other thing is that if your brother is visiting for 3 hours a day thats pretty good. He obviously has his own place, his girlfriend will be wanting him to spend time with her and he probably has to work as well. I only see my daughter for a couple of hours a day by the time I get in from work before she has to go to bed!
Most dogs adore attention and belly rubs, I would advise fussing the dog until she feels comfortable in your house and around you. She might be frightened that she is going to be moved on again in a couple of weeks.
Thats just my doggy logic and might only work for labradors, but there you go!
