Yes, it is possible. There are probably better ways, but ASP works on HTTP, not neccessarily HTML, so you could send plain text files or even work out a way to communicate with custom HTTP headers in either direction.

What are the "better ways" you are referring to? Can you, or anyone else, give me an example of how to "send plain text files" or "communicate with custom HTTP headers in either direction?" If no examples are forthcoming, can you please provide a reference where I can find some more info?

Maybe SOAP or DCOM or whatever technology being hyped at the moment. There's lots of way to solve your problem.

In ASP, you can use Response.ContentType = "text/plain" to specify you are sending a text file, have your client program request this ASP page, then process it like you would a standard I/O text-file. Look into the Internet Transfer Control or Winsock to replace the web browser.
