Hi

I have been given something to do in asp as i have never worked in asp and I don't think I will get any more assignments regarding this.

So if you can help me regarding this then it will be of great help...

What I want is the comboboxes and text boxes as shown in the picture below. we can ignore the background.

The data needs to be saved in an access database.

How do I go about it?

ps: This has to be done in the old version of asp, so I guess this is the right forum.

The way it is usually done is to use ADO code, but late-bound as you cannot have References (or even proper data types - just Variants ).

If you do that, you can use normal ADO code (like in the "Classic VB - ADO" section of our Database Development FAQs/Tutorials), just leaving out the data types, using values instead of enums (eg: replace adOpenForwardOnly with the number it refers to, which may be 3), and changing any Set lines, eg:

Usual ADO:

Set cn = New ADODB.Connection
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset

late bound:

Set cn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")

On top of that, you do not have controls as you normally would, so you need to use code to create the HTML equivalents (HTML forms reference).

I have managed to create the web page (phew!!! It is so difficult in asp...) and now the difficult part...

Connecting it to a database...

W3Schools shows you how to use ADO with classic ASP.

But si has shown you the main things you need to know. The rest is about creating your INSERT statements and executing them.

Ok I am stuck

When i click submit nothing happens. It goes to 1.asp but the database is not updated.

@mendhak: Yeah, i checkd that site. In fact I got the code for ADO from there...

Here's what I used to make it work

Dim conn
set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")

conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=C:\Documents and Settings\mendhak\Desktop\feedback\Hygienix.mdb;"
conn.ConnectionTimeout = 0
conn.Open

hi

first collect the data from the textbox & combobox
eg. for data from textbox1, textbox2
use request object

v1=request.form("textbox1.text")
v2=request.form("textbox1.text")
using normal insert query insert the values in the table using v1, v2

I managed to sort it out...

besides that there was also an error it serverpath. Seems like it doesn't like paths like \\xyz\abc

Changed it to

conn.Open(Server.Mappath("Hygienix.mdb"))

and it ran smoothly
