[RESOLVED] CentOS installer always has corrupt packages

I've tried very hard to install CentOS 5.1 on several different machines. I've tried the DVD ISO image, I've tried the netinstall image. Both, without fail, bring up an error message during installation, along the lines of:

The file [name of a .rpm file] cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrput package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source.

If you exit, your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require reinstallation.

Reboot | Retry

With the netinstall image, clicking Retry repeatedly eventually gets it past that RPM — then it happens again on the next package, and the next, and so on, such that a full install takes about six hours and is fairly detrimental to one's health.

With the DVD installer, clicking Retry does nothing. I've tried at least four different DVD images (not all of which were downloaded by me, either) and all have had this problem.

Searching Google for this problem yields only the workaround for the netinstall image.

Am I just incredibly unlucky, or is there some solution that I am missing? I like CentOS, but that is not much help if I cannot even install it.

Edit: I should mention that I've had this problem with both the x86 and x86_64 installers, on a physical Intel Core2 64-bit machine, VMWare Server 32-bit guest and VMWare ESX 64-bit guest.

If its the netinstall one causing your problems then it may be something like packetloss on your network causing retries when MD5sums fail validation. That's just a guess though.

Otherwise make sure your DVD drive isn't faulty / dirty lens etc...

We've had problems like this with numerous distros until we changed our DVD/CDROM disc supplier no we get a different brand, the problems have been much less frequent.

Some of the ISO images were loaded directly into VMWare virtual machines. They also passed the verification test in the installer.

Here's what worked for me: copied the CentOS DVD directories/files onto another machine on my local network (a Windows machine, using Windows Explorer), to a web-server-accessible directory (under Inetpub\wwwroot). Then wrote the small netinstall.iso to a CD, and proceeded with network install on the target machine. The procedure is otherwise identical, except this time it worked.
