[RESOLVED] Can't open EXE's!

I've just noticed that any EXE I download off the net, when I double click on it to open nothing happens No error message is displayed, I get an hour glass for about 1 second and then it disappears.

Any EXE's already on my computer run fine, it's just ones I've D/L. I know the EXE's run because I've downloaded them on my wifes computer and they run fine.

I've done a AVG virus and spybot scan but both turned up negative.

Has anyone else had this issue in the past but more importantly does anyone know how to fix it?

Not sure if this was the fix but uninstalled some unusual items at C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files, rebooted and now can open the EXE's I'd downloaded

What kind of "usual items"?

Perhaps other folks should look around and see if they are present on their machine as well.

I can't remember the exact names but I remember uninstalling all items that had a status of 'Damaged'.
