what are the specs of the computer?
and what os?
a few things to try:
run disk cleaner , run disk defrag, download and run ccleaner note: this version unfortunately installs yahoo toolbar so you will have to uninstall it
make sure your computer is free of viruses
In the order I would do it:
Uninstall all old software that you no longer use.
Use the disk cleaner that comes with windows to remove some more.
Scan for viruses.
Scan for spyware/advare.
Run the disk defrag.
Done.
I'd also check up on any running services and/or any running start-up programs.
If you press [Win]+[R], and type in "msconfig", and then from there deduce what you need for starting up and what you don't need.
If you have no clue about these things, Try obtaining HijackThis. Despite it's hostile name, it's actually a tool designed for people who've had their computers completely overrun (or hijacked, hence the name) with malicious software. This tool analyses everything on your computer and gives you the option to remove anything you think is malicious.
Be warned, this is a very dangerous tool if misued - i.e. if you check all of the boxes or put a check next to anything you are unsure of. The main reason why I've asked if you could use this program is that it produces logs. If you would be so kind (if you do use the program) as to produce a log (when you are ready) and either upload the file or just copy+paste the contents of the log here if you want your PC to potentially run faster than usual?
i was referring to 8. My dad's got a dual-core system and avg locks it up completely about once every 20 minutes checking for updates and scanning. He hates it.
I have a single core system, and I have 8. And it doesn't lock it up every 20 mins, infact I never notice it, apart from teh brief update when I turn my PC on, which frankly sits in the back groud while I check my Email and figure out what the hell it is I have to do for work today! lol.
well he does a lot of downloading (a LOT of downloading) and he's frankly better off with daily on. Even running both avg and norton at the same time he managed to infect his entire network.
seriously? well, we might have found the problem.
running 2 anti-virus applications simultaneously slows your pc down like hell.
AVG should do fine on its own.
at first very thanks to all of ur reply and such an open discusion. secondly please guide me in this matter too which is relalted to my posted problem.
I have remove ASP.net 2.0 from my sysem and install VS 2003.but in add remove program i find that there are certain programms are still there concern with ASP.net 2.0(i.e VS 2005).which also slow down my PC performance(well i think so). could u point those programms(in attached image)that what are those programms which should be there only in the case when VS 2005 is there.
i think once i remove the programm(VS 2005 from ADD_REMOVE_Program)
i would able to get my pc faster. but please make sure that my VS 2003 should not effect after i remove them.
