free exe icon changer?

I'm trying to find a free exe icon changer. I've tried to download many trial software's that do this and none of them will work with my VB6 application. Either the icon doesn't change in vista, or the application doesn't run.

There's only one software I found that does this but, it costs $100 and seems kinda of a high price for this software but, I might not really have an option if it's the only software I can find.

Even if it's not free anything less than $100 I could consider but, I've tried so many and none of them work.


Anybody have any suggestions?

Are you trying to set it to a particular icon for distro, or do you want it dynamically changed?

actually I'm not a programmer, I just have some applications that were made in VB by a programmer and I'd like to change the icons. I'm going to distribute to some people.

well you can make a shortcut, and change the shortcut icon.

distro with a setup application, have it put the actual exe's in the program files folder and have a shortcut on the desktop with the icon you want

thanks for your advise. although this program is just one exe, there's no setup application.

just because the app doesnt need to be setup doesnt mean you dont need to use one.

the setup (as i explained) will just move the exe and set and icon for a shortcut. which is what you wanted to do. Problem solved.

actually without doing any of that, I just want to change the icon on the file permanently, not creating any shortcuts or anything.

why cant you contact the programmer and have him change it for you?

it has a trial use even though it cost $99.95. I really think that's kind of steep considering nearly any experienced programmer could create a program that does this in a day.
