I am so sick of Windows automatically rebooting my computer!
Is there some way I can turn off the "feature" of Windows automatically rebooting my computer after it downloads updates?
I usually have 10 or so windows open - enterprise manager, query analyzer, source safe, VS, 5 windows explorers so I can easily go to all the directories I use frequently...then I come in in the morning and all of it is gone, not to mention the ad hoc queries I didn't bother to save.
This never used to happen at my last job for the 18 months I was there. I would be notified of updates and I could ignore them for a couple of days but when I installed them it was because I was ready to reboot. It happens all the time here. I hate when software makes decisions for me.
Thanks.

Just turn off automatic update.
I usually have it only notify when there are update and try to update daily when I reboot my pc.

It is XP Pro.
When I went to verify this, I found Control Panel->Automatic Updates. I don't know who the heck configured my computer before I got here, but they were turned on. I guess it was as simple as flipping a switch. Thanks for prodding me to look in the right place!

Is it possible to have Windows install the updates automatically, but not display the window to restart, or restart automatically?
I don't mind it installing the updates, but the restart stuff irritates me.
I code C#....

the only way to get that is to set it to only notify you of the updates. That's what I do at home. I only set it for notification that an update is available for download. then when I'm ready, I manually go to the windows update website and grab them. At work, our pcs are configured to download the updates, but not install them. With that we also manage to skip the auto reboots.

I would leave at the end of the day still logged on to Windows and come in the next day only to have had updates installed and be logged off. When I logged back in, it told me updates had been applied. Personally, I hated it. But if that is what you want there's the option. Is that what you are asking for?

just set it so it is "let me decide when to install" and it will put an icon in your system tray.
