Connect my laptop to my tv...

Ok my taptop has an ol' VGA output, and my tv has a DVI-I input on it.

Now the input on the tv is 3 pins tall by 8 pins wide, and has the one really wide pin to the far left.

I bought a dvi to vga cable, but it has two pins above and below the really wide pin (which my tv does not) AND the wide pin is too wide to fit??

I've been looking and looking, and all the DVI-I male 'ended' cords all have those funky 2 pins above and below the really wide one...

What do I need to do to get my laptop to hook up to my tv ?

    tv is a RCA-R52WH74
    laptop is a SONY VIAO( VGN - NR220E )

    Thanks a bunch,

    Justin Fox

Not know what the heck DVI was, I did a quick search and came up with this site: http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-...c11400-p1.html which might be helpful, especially the link DVI Info Page with Pictures and Descriptions of the DVI Connector Types and Cables

    hope it helps.

Sounds like your cable is DVI-D.

Here is some good info on DVI Show Me Cables

Re: Connect my laptop to my tv...

yea, I finally found a valuable source that told me my tv's correct dvi output model. it is infact dvi-d, so It looks like I'm going to have to get a dvi-d male to dvi-i female adapter so I can use my laptop on my tv.

I believe that dvi-d is digital only, so there are no dvi-d to vga cables (without having a fancy converter and costing me bunches of money)

I looked up dvi-d male to dvi-i female and they have them for about 15 bucks, so I figured I'd buy one and let er rip!

    Thanks for all the help,

Re: Connect my laptop to my tv...

If you read that second link that I posted.... it's gonna be a nut buster because VGA is an analog signal, which is why there isn't a VGA to DVI-D converter out of the box... to convert the analog signal to a digi signal that can be sent to the DVI-D, it's going to probably require a converter box of some sort.... and there's probably no guarantee that it'll even work properly. Just my 2cents.
