    Laptop opinions

Hi all, i'm looking to buy a laptop, to be used mainly for word processing, storing pics/videos at university. It needs to be as future-proof as possible for a price of around £400. If this laptop below a good bet, or for the price could i get better? Do you think that the money could better be spent on a faster processor rather than the extra hard disk and better graphics card. I'm just a bit concerned that while it has a better graphics card than most in the price range, it's processor will be too much of a bottle-neck in the future.

Anyone have this, or a laptop with similar specs? What's the performance like? Or does anyone have a laptop with a much worse graphics card running vista (with aero) that runs fine?

    Cheers for any opinions.

    Re: Laptop opinions

Get an AMD acer; way cheaper.

Bought my laptop about a month or two ago.
    It was about £600.
If I'd have chosen for an Intel processor I would've paid about £50-100 more for same specs.

    Acer Aspire 7520G
    - AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2,0 GHz, 2x512 KB L2 cache)
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 512MB Dedicated (1280MB Turbocache)
    - 3GB DDR2
    - 17" Screen
    - 2x250GB SATA Hard Drive
    - DVD burner and b/g WLAN

Alright, this is more a gaming PC but whatever.

I don't know why you would want to run Vista Aero or just Vista in those terms. Notebooks you buy with Vista run so much better on XP, or actually the other way around; XP runs very smooth on Vista-ready notebooks. But that's just simple logic.

Anyway, if you don't have a special reason to use Vista, just install XP.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

    Re: Laptop opinions

I know XP runs way better, but i want a laptop that will be able to run vista once it becomes the norm in a few years. I'll definatly look at laptops with AMD processors as opposed to Intel if you think i can get cheaper that way, although i have looked at a lot of places, both AMD and Intel and for the price that seemed like the best deal.
Any other views would be much appreciated.

Lord Orwell is correct, Vista is not going to be scrapped, but is going to take a back seat. Correct me if I am wrong but the new windows (9 I believe) Is going to be much better.

So I would stick with XP personally.

For word processing you do not need a high powerd graphics card, so bare that in mind when searching.

2 ghrtz dual processor or dual core with 2-3 gig ram will do the job.

    Try www.novatech.co.uk

    Very good.
