Congrats. I'll give you a week of driving to break all those good habits. Like feeding the steering wheel through your hands that'll be the first to go.
Now, aren't you sorry you didn't just keep on scrolling?

I wasn't even aware that this post existed until about 2minutes ago. Thanks for your support guys.
It was my 4th attempt. The nerves kept getting to me previously. I don't have a car, but I'm sure I can convince my dad that he doesn't really need his as much as he thinks he does...

OK..what's the FASTEST anyone has gotten their car up to...
And BE HONEST!!!!!
I have 2 speeds:
I had a 68 camaro (total hotrod) that I hit 142mph on a closed track
I had a 71 nova that I pushed to 115 on the expressway
I backed off 'cause that old POS felt like it was floating...I couldnt feel the road so...Aborted...(I was trying to peg the speedo...120 was its top mark)

My truck tops out at 200, but that only sounds impressive until you realise that in Canada everything metric and thats only 200km/h, which is just about a healthy jog.
Actually it must be about 120mp/h.

I'm not going to incriminate myself, but lets just say that the ride is still smooth and 120mph isn't that fast. I remember my dad getting his clapped out old Volvo (2.3 Turbo) up to 125mph on the M1. And beleive me the M1 is like a windy back-road compared with the highways out here.
You should see the highways out here. They are straight as a die as far as the eye can see. There's a road heading North, it's about 200 miles long and not a single curve and only a few hills, oh yeah and it's three lanes each way of dual carriage way.... and everyone sticks to the 110kph limit. If they're being risky they go to 120kph.
Now couple this with the fact that you can see a police car from miles away and radar detectors are legal in this province........
Of course the pisser is that they use spotter planes... which seems a little unsporting
My brother rented a super-charged grand-am and got it up to 265kph (about 160mph) but chickened out as the aerodynamic features of the car where threatening to turn it into plane, something it realy isn't suitable for.
Thats the problem out here, hugely powerfull cars, fabulous straight roads, but nobody abuses them!!!

Aha, geoff, you're not from Britain, so alot of that last post will be lost on you!
Suffice to say, British people are far more lax about speed limits the North Americans

What's the speed limit down there 55mph? I seem to remember hearing sometime ago that they where trying to abolish that? Did they ever succeed?

Here (NY) outside of the cities its 65mph
but in Montana (I think) they got rid of it..and left it to your own judgement
I am not sure it ever really happened but I think so.

Here in Britain the national limit is 60, and 70 on motorways & dual-carriageways. 30 in built-up areas, and at the rest of the time it's on signs how fast you can go.
Most people do about 90 down the M/W though

I heard the other day (from Jamagei) that there are some tentative plans to change the regulations concerning points on your license and fines for speeding, basically making them much stricter, especially for motorway speeds. I can see the incentive to cut speeds in residential areas, but is speeding really a problem on motorways? Whenever you go on the motorway, barely 10% of the drivers are going at or below the speed limit. Where are there more problems caused by speeding, in 30 and 40 zones or 70 zones? Seems a bit silly to me.

Because most drivers know how fast 60 is, and if you're going 120 and see someone go past at 60 then they must be doing 180...........

mmm, possibly. Once you get above the realms of normal speeds (i.e. 100) it is much harder to have an accurate idea of someone elses speed.

I suspect we'll be scaring to the speed limit abiding North Americans by refering to 100mph as normal speed

100 mph!! Normal!!
Your A** would be Sooo Busted if the cops nailed you going 100 here. they can even pull your license on the spot if they want to (all it takes is 25mph over the limit to do that)
I once was doin about 85 on a highway....and a cop came out of nowhere...winding his car down (downshift) to pull next to me....he was in a mustang (NYS Police)...motions me to slow down..which of course I do imediatley..then when I hit 75...backs off and pulls me over. Gave me a ticket for 75 in a 55. Nice of him...less points...less of a fine.
best one I had was being let go after doing 82 in a 55. The cop actually pulled me over to look at my car (the 68 camaro) checked out the engine..etc...then said "SLow Down!" and walked away.
I was BEEMING that day...Very Cool Cop
