    Resolved [RESOLVED] Winsock connection woe's

I have a server/client program, and i've dumbed it down to the bare essentials and i stil cant get it to work. It only seems able to connect to my loopback, i havent tried from another lan PC yet, but people over the net cannot connect.
Yes, i have numbers right, and ports opened and fowarded properly, just doesnt seem to even try to connect, nor can they ping me either.

If others can't ping your computer then either it is configured not to respond to ping or they are pinging an incorrect IP Address. Can you successfully ping others?

What do you see when you open up Network Neighborhood on your machine?

Okay, I'm able to ping people and NOW people can ping me, not sure what was wrong before. But i made a very simple test program to test connections, and it fails as well. I'm able to connect using loopback and can connect from other PC's on my network using my LAN address, everything fails when it tries(including other people over the net) to connect to my WAN address. I'm really stuck here =\

Oh, and on network places, i just see the shared docs on my other PC's

I suspect that you will have to use Port forwarding on your router to allow external addresses to access your application. Also you may have to configure your Firewall to allow such connections.

As far as i can tell, i have the ports forwarded to my PC, and my firewall is off as well, both the in-router firewall and PC firewall. I have a Westell 6100 router/modem and i have the proper port forwarded to my address, but it seems to refuse to work, any idea what im doing wrong

What port is your program using?

And you're sure the port is open on your LAN IP?

With no router or firewall in the way to block the connection I don't know what could be the problem. Some ISPs block some ports, maybe yours is.

Have you tried sending the server app to someone else and connecting to them?

He said it failed when connecting across a WAN.

If this is what he is trying to do:

    PC --- Router --- Internet --- Router --- PC

then it might have to do with IP addresses as well as ports. Read the link I posted.

    Re: Winsock connection woe's

after a few hours of tinkering with my router and PC settings, i broke my internet a few times, but now it seems to work without a hitch

I'm not sure what was wrong but it seems fixed now.
