Thread: first & best game(s) ever

    Cool

What was the first game you bought and what (in your opinion) are the best games ever made, (supply reasons if you like).
I will compile a chart at the top, when I think we've got enough 'votes'.
My first game I bought was Wolfenstein 3D
My list of best games are:
    1)Half-Life (Just gr8 all round)
    2)Duke 3D (blatent sexism)
    3)Day of the Tenticle (hilarious)

It doesn't have to be just PC games, put consoles, Amigas, whatever up here.

i'm up for a game, one more player needed

I'm going to throw these in randomly as I think of them, but definetly Populous (1 or 2) on the Amiga!

That got me through my final year of college.

    oh yeah!

And Elite on the Amstrad CPC-6128.

(and Elite :Final Frontier on the Amiga).

    First computer game owned.

Pong - well it was on of those little paddle games that hooked up to the telly and played Tennis, Football and squash, but that was all. And they where all just black & white pong with different bat configurations. We thought it was the coolest - first computer game in the village.

Why? Imean, I know it was the first game EVER and everyone was "ooohh, aaah, look at the ball... it bounces!" and it took up about £3,000,000 worth of memory in those days, but, can't you think of something better.

    Fact:
In the 1970s 1Mb of RAM would have set you back $3,000,000

Yes, I know its simple and it may have been very primative but its a personal preference. Its not to say that I don't like newer "better" games.

Not sure whether I played Pong on one of those little boxes you attach to the TV first, or a game on the BBC called "Mr T" which loaded from tape. I was 4 at the time I think.

I just remembered, I used to have an old Amstrad with a green screen and a tape drive. My first game for that was Playschool (those were the good old days!)

To be honest, they weren't that good. Elite is just about the only game out of everything from that period that I would play again. Oh that and Dogfight on the BBC.

Best: I reckon Tony Hawks 2 is one of the best. Also siphon filter and Maybe 007 on the Nes 64.
Oh i forgot to mention Alex Kid on the sega ms2.

Oh yes, I just realised the question. The first game I ever bought was Wing Commander 3. Wasn't really worth it. The first 2 were much better. Game I'm most glad I bought is probably Starcraft.

I can't narrow my selection down to 3 'cause I've just remembered how me and my mates would stay up all Friday and Saturday night after coming back from the pub to play 4 player doom on a network of p.c.s that we had "borrowed" from work. We used to fight over who got the 2 486's and who got dumped with the 386's. But pretty much the rule was if you went for a piss anyone could grab your machine.

It is unfortuante that Allegiance did not catch on to well. Mainly it was becuase of the lack of funding for good advertisement. Oh well. I havent had the time to play Allegiance much lately but when I do, my SN is Halberd_G.

You outta check out Jumpgate too man. Think of Allegiance but in a persistant massive multiplayer universe with thousands of players. There is no capitol ships yet, but they are planning to add them later. It looks and sounds awesome so far. There are even human players being pirates in the game ..That is pretty cool.

Cool... I have heard about it, similar to what you say. I used to play UO (a lot) and I don't really want the persistence though. The good thing about not having persistence is that you don't have to worry about what the effect of your actions now will be in more than about an hour's time. I guess it's cool to be able to really develop in the game though. How difficult is piracy?
