What the heck is going on in France?
I guess there isn't an equivalent to the US Constitution First Amendment in France.

I dont think one should judge an entire group of people in such a racist way. Tough to say if it should be against the law or not though, in some acpects I would say yes, but in others I would say no...

I agree with you. In the US Right to Free speech is not absolute, the governement can control your speech in certian circumstances (ie: yelling fire in a crowded movie house) but I think that we should all have the right to express our opinions unless we are attempting to cause a riot.

Re: What the heck is going on in France?
This is an interesting 'twist' as I refer to it as for lack of a better word.
France once expressed an 'opinion' by opposing the war in Iraq. Remember Freedom Fries? I did a bit of searching and it appears that Francophobia has had a long and colorful history.
Perhaps we can change Freedom of Speech to "Freedom of Speech as long as it agrees with what we think".

I do not think the issue is what Americans think of the French but rather what French law allows its citizens to say or not say (Besides there is plenty of anti-French sentiment in the UK ,as well as a lot of Europe, that dates back to long before the US was even a country).

The British have hated the French for centuries, but American hatred gets the Wikipedia page?

Re: What the heck is going on in France?
Actually, if you read the discussion along with that page you will find that these points are actively debated. The general arguments are whether or not a page on American Francophobia should include other countries, whether there should be a different page on Francophobia that the current page should be subsumed into, etc. Most contributers seem to be of the opinion that the American francophobia is somewhat unique in scope and schizophrenic nature, and therefore deserves a special focus separate from the general topic that would apply to other countries in Europe, along with yet another page dealing with former colonies.
In short: Your views are valid and shared by the contributors, yet there is no consensus as to which direction the page should move.
Any subject as nebulous as that will be largely a matter of opinion, but it is not better to suppress that opinion. The hashing out of the matter in the wiki discussion adds more of the context to the elements of the article than the references alone.

I sure don't hate the French. My wife and I honeymooned there for three weeks and found nothing but beautiful scenery, museums, and historical sites, great food, and, yes, friendly people.

Nope. The French don't dislike Americans in general (well things may have changed during the Shrub era), just the boorish, rude, American tourists that unfortunately are not uncommon.

Yes, because commenting on the credibility of Wikipedia is a surefire way to modify historical statements.

My parents visited over there a few times. They were embarrassed by the behavior of some American tourists they met. Because of their polite behavior, they were mistaken for Canadians rather than Americans at times. They found that to be a telling mistake. Apparently, we have a stellar reputation
