Loud Buzz
Hmmm i just finished cleaning out my whole computer area that meant i unplugged everything and gave it all a nice dust down. Anyway i plugged everything up and off it went a couple of minutes in my drive was making an unordinary loud buzz sound every couple of minutes or so. It stopped for about an hour so i didn't think much of it but then again just a moment ago it done it again
I am assuming it is the Hard Drive. Any ideas what could be the problem?
I didn't drop, bump or even open the computer case. Just gave the case and other computer components a dust down.

Re: Loud Buzz
Are you sure it is the hard drive? Maybe it is the fan.

Re: Loud Buzz
Seems like some wire is interfering with the fan. just move it away from the fan and it will be okay...

Re: Loud Buzz
Funnily enough, I had something similar a couple of months ago. I was about to go and get another HDD but decided to have one last, final, hair pulling go to cure it.
Turned out it was the vibration from 1 of 3 HDDs causing a stainless steel finger on a side handle catch (the PC sides are drop-down) to resonate. 2 minutes with some long nosed pliers cured it.

Re: Loud Buzz
Since it is a home system, the thing it sounds most like is a wire getting into the fan. I have done this a few times. Those nylon fan blades turn at a pretty good rate, and create a pretty good buzz if one of the power wires has gotten close enough that the fan blades are brushing it. Very easy to cause, and the noise would not appear to come from any specific place, so it would be easy to misinterpret.
On the other hand, if this was a work system, the source could be elsewhere. A buddy of mine and I used a hole saw to drill through the floor of a co-workers office from below, and installed an alarm buzzer under the carpet right below his computer. I could trigger it by pressing a button in my office, and the sound could be heard across the office (120 db alarm). We had another buzzer that sounded like a phone set up in another guys office. Therefore, if you get odd noises at work, don't necessarily assume that you are at fault.

Also if the harddrive screws have come loose the HDD could be rattling a bit.
