    Comcast Internet

Working in Philly the past several days made me miss Comcast Internet Service. When I left the DC area I was getting great service for about $40 / month (4 mbps down and 1 mbps up).

Today I get less than 1 down and up for 49.95, but the attitude is free.

Has Verizon run FIOS lines there yet? You could always switch to another service.

Where I live in Missouri is rural so it is not likely, and besides Verizon isn't here. I'd settle for the local CATV company running cable here. Oh well, you just can't have it all.

The way I understand it, is there are never 2 cable providers servicing the same locations. At least that is how it is in NJ. We have several cable companies, but none of them overlap their geographic bounds.

Look on the bright side, you can listen to Kidd Chris in the mornings. Sure, his show is immature but it's the funniest thing I've ever listened to

In a lot of places (all?) you have to get the local gov't to allow you to provide service. But I think that came from having conflicts over too many people on the pole. Because Verizon and Comcast are already on the same pole I think you will see more and more competition.

I have internet (2 up 5 down), cable and telephone all with Comcast. With the 4 TVs in the house (one of them HDTV) it costs a bit more than $40 a month but no problems that a simple phone call hasn't fixed.

Over the years I have done some Network Consulting for them and they get better all the time with the customer experience. I never had a problem with them when I had their service.

The big push is to have fewer and fewer customers sharing bandwidth. That is a win/win.
