i have a detached .mdf file that is part of my project. I need to use crystal reports to pull data from the mdf file hopefully without attaching it to the running instance of sql server express. Is this even possible? i have both 10 and XI at my disposal so will use whichever version seems to do what i need it to do.

An MDF file is useless without SQL Server.

sql express is mounted to the client machine, but the db is not attached, its part of the project.
