Re: Battery Usage
I have XP Pro on two laptops and I've never had a issue with a battery on either of them.
Both last about 4 hours. What kind of a laptop do you have (I have a Toshiba and an HP)

Re: Battery Usage
I had a laptop with xp pro and installed vista basic and noticed a vast improvement from the battery.

Maybe this is why your machine is suffering
"Microsoft made some important changes in Vista that do improve some aspects of battery life, such as smarter hibernation modes that override applications that want to keep running, and simpler options for choosing a power management setting."

Re: Battery Usage
hmm could be but is there anything different with the battery itself because i know people that have had xp pre installed and the battery is fine do you think re training it would help ( letting it die right down and re charging it back up ? )

Re: Battery Usage
How much of an issue would it be to put Vista back on the laptop (at least temporiarly)?
I think it might prove to be an interesting test.

Hi you can improve the battery life by customising the software which comes originally with the laptop. I don't know which one is there for your laptop but for example, I bought a Sony Viao day before yesterday and it comes with Viao battery optimisation. I am sure if you check the softwares that came with your laptop, you will find it...

Re: Battery Usage
Do a search with something like "hp pavillion dv9428ca Battery optimisation Software"
edit: the above won't give any result. try "HP Battery Optimization". Plenty of links there...
