Can I crate a thread where only I can add/update posts ? (for a tutorial)

I want to make a sound tutorial (in my free time).
I want to start the thread, write a bit. After a few days when I have more time, write more, and so on... until I finish.

I don't want other people saying something like (before I finish), "You explained how you do that, but how do you do that other thing ?"
I want the thread to be locked until I decide it is complete, then open it for discussion.
But of course that if one of the admins locks the thread, then even I will not be able to edit/add new posts.

So, any ideas on how can I do this ?

    Edit
PS, I already started the tutorial in a doc document, but I just can't get the [Highlight=VB] tags to work there

Put it in the Forum Test area with a little explanation. People should respect what you are trying to do and if they don't just let me know. When you are done I can move it for you.

Could you please allow him/us to create a 'feedback' thread in FTA where people can post feedback/questions related to CVMichael's ongoing tutorial ?

    Thanks Hack

If you look in my tutorial thread you will se I added "My Objectives" at the beginning.

I would like to create another thread (don't know where), to ask people what else they would like to see in the tutorial (IF I actually know how to do it)

    My thought would is this.

Who is your target audience for this tutorial? Is it Gamers? If so, then I'd put the "what else would you like to see" thread in Games and Graphics.

If you feel this has a more general audience, then perhaps General Developer.

If there is a target audience I didn't name, and we have a forum section for those people, then I'd put it there.

I don't think a sound tutorial has anything to do with Games and Graphics. It all depends on its purpose.

    I agree with Jacob.
Like, I'm not interested in game programming, I rarely visit Games & Graphics, but I'm interested in learning more about sound.

Re: Can I crate a thread where only I can add/update posts ? (for a tutorial)

I am thinking to create the thread in either General Developer or in Classic Visual Basic ?

In Classic Visual Basic the thread will get lost on the second page or more pretty fast, so if no one is posting, I'll have to "bump" the thread once in a while...

In General Developer it will stay on top a lot more, but less people will see the thread.

Ow, yea... there is no "Post Reply" button...
    Not even Edit....
[Edit] Ups... I take back... I can edit that thread... I guess I forgot where is the button to edit for a few minutes

I should have that for the Tutorial thread (the bad thing is that even I (the creator of the thread) cannot post in it)

That depends on how many people have suggestions. It would only get lost quickly in ClassicVb if no one had any.

That is one of the features of that section. si_the_geek is the Mod. Send him a PM and ask him to move it.

Take a look at some of the aritcles over on www.Codeguru.com. There are a number of good tutorials over there.

Re: Can I crate a thread where only I can add/update posts ? (for a tutorial)

    To any Admin:

It's been a long time since I did not touch my sound tutorial thread, and I decided that it's about time to finish it... so now I will try extra hard to try to finish it.

Can you move my tutorial to the propper forum ? (Here I guess: UtilityBank - Tutorials )
    http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=388562

Also, I edited the first post, and changed the title to "VB6.0 – Sound and DirectXSound Tutorial", but in the test forum it still shows up as "Tutorial under construction", can that be fixed ?

I still want to be able to edit my posts in the tutorial thread, because I am not completely finished, but I am close, and I will try to finish this weekend. I will also attach some sample projects to how how to use the latest functions I posted there.

I will make another tutorial for the Advanced stuff, something like "VB6.0 – Sound and DirectXSound Tutorial - Part 2 - Advanced", maybe I should name the current one "...Part 1" ?

    Thanks

Re: Can I crate a thread where only I can add/update posts ? (for a tutorial)

Ah, yes. That is a bug in the forum software as the thread title and the post title do not synch. The thread is stored in the thread table with a title and the post is in the post table with a title. When edited (first post) they dont update in both table most of the time.

Updated. PM Si and he can go over it and move it for you.
