Resolved [RESOLVED] Windows 95 Powertoys on Vista

I have admin rights on my machine so I thought I should be able to install the Windows 95 Powertoys on Windows Vista.
The ones I miss the most are the Target - Open Containing Folder and the SendTo AnyFolder and SendToClipboardAsName
I can emulate this with vbs (see sig), but the originals are nicer.

When I right-click Install the inf files I get an error saying:
    Error loading \SENDTOX.DLL
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

I guess this is something to do with Vistas enhanced user rights system, but I am not sure how to get around it.

From what I remember, PowerToys are not supported (or at least, weren't back then). That means they are unlikely to work correctly on other versions of Windows, and in theory there may even be cases where they don't work for the one they were designed for!

There have been several generations of PowerToys (I have the XP version on XP), so I suspect that you will be able to find new versions of them.

A very quick search found some, but not the ones you want: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/m.../cc162321.aspx

Windows 95 Powertoys have worked on all versions of Windows since Win95.
I think the problem is probably more likely to be with Vista preventing a DLL being copied to the system folder rather than an inherent problem with the Powertoys themselves.

I disagree.. those PowerToys were designed to work with the internals of Win95 (the kernel, etc), and Vista has a very different internals to previous versions - which is likely to be the root of the issue (or at least, other issues which prevent it from working).

I think you might be right.
Copying the dll to the system folder and doing regsvr32 from and adminstrator command propmt didnt work either.
The solution appears to be here though as an alternative

Better question why are you using the 95 version?
I would think that the XP version would work a lot better.

The XP version doesn't have Target - Open Containing Folder and the SendTo AnyFolder and SendToClipboardAsName

are you running 64-bit vista? The 32-bit programs won't interface with the 64-bit shell.

    It is the 32-bit version.
The context-magic menu extension does everything I need so I think I will settle for that.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
