I'm looking for some facts and your opinions on the issue. i appreciate them!!

I just bought 1 copy of Windows 98. I have 2 computers. It specifically says in the end user license agreement that I can install it on only 1 computer. i want it on both.
do you think i can do it anyway?
how can they enforce this anyhow.... they can't just come into your house and look for this kind of thing?

Just install it, they're lucky you bought one copy, let alone two.

They basically can't enforce it. Well they could but it's not worth the time, effort and money tracking down people who have illegal copies and then prosecuting them.

Well, I'm pretty sure other people will disagree with me on this but I really don't think you have anything to worry about, just don't try to register it more than once

if Ms want to to track down illegal usage, it won't be you(individual).. what a waste of money...

hehehehe.. if they want, my friend's friend's company with more then 30 people shared one copy of every Ms products(OS, office..)

yeah, the only thing you have to remember is, like HarryW said, if you are registering it, only do it on one machine. I have one copy of WinMe on four machines...

I am not certain about this, but I think they might have to prove that the two computers are used simultaneously.

For example, I do not think you are violating the licensing agreement if you have a computer in your summer home and one in your regular home, with the same software installed on each.

Thers a story were microsoft looked at the software on peoples computers to see if they had any illegal software. When they found some they got the law involved but it turned out microsoft were charged heavily for illegally accesing computers and invasion of privacy!

Hmmm....

It's a tough moral and ethical decision, especially if you are a programmer yourself. I wouldn't want people to use my programs for free. The license agreement does specify that before installing it on another computer, you have to remove the installation on the current computer. I know everybody claims they hate MS and I also know that MS make a lot of money but being a developer myself, I would rather pay for my software.
