Resolved [RESOLVED] Firefox + VBForums causing freezes?

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

Everytime I open a new vbforums page, the browser keeps freezing and stays unresponsive for half a minute. And the ad in the top right corner isn't displaying either (I don't have adblock).

This only happens for vbforums... anyone else?

Yeah, working fine in Opera. Incidentally this is the first time I've used Opera since a version years ago. Excellent render speed.

Opera + VBForums works well. Use the superior product and ditch the fox

A little more useful response: I haven't run into this issue myself but then again, I have no plugins installed. Firefox has a safe mode with no plugins loaded, right? You could always give that a try.

i have this issue recently. Has only been happening in the last couple of weeks. The little working symbols freeze, etc. I don't have any idea if this is related to the forums.

I was just about to post my 'find', and you got to the answer before I did.

It was firebug, helpfully trying to load every javascript error on the page. I've disabled firebug for vbforums.com and now everything works fine.

Fortunately, I have decided to continue testing Opera for a while longer. I will post Opera questions in another thread, since this is Forum feedback.

A number of forum products are no longer supporting IE6 due to that product suxing the life out of the Universe, any of the CSS guys will know what I mean.

Using IE7 and latest build of FF no issues at all.

Opera is worse than IE when it comes to W3C compatiablility, gosh that product sucks.

BTW at all three sites I help manage, i.e sit around doing nothing, FF is now our number one visitor browser by quite a margin.

But it's so much fun Horses for courses comes to mind, I use FF almost exclusively as it has a couple of great web development add ons that save time, so the product works for me.

Waiting on one of the Apple guys to wade in

I use Firebug and I rarely see Javascript errors on VBForums. Where there are any, they don't cause Firefox to freeze.

Perhaps a region-specific ad is causing the errors.

I would think this is more likely than the Firebug plugin, since i don't personally use the plugin but have experienced the freeze. the only plugin i have installed is the flash downloader for real player.

I'm sorry if this comes off as rude but that was the most ignorant comment I've seen on these forums in a very long time.

Not only were Opera and WebKit the first pieces of software to render the Acid 2 test but Opera has always be ahead of the game when it comes to standards.

I don't understand how you could even say anything like that. Have you ever used Opera? Do you know anything about it?

I'm sorry but I cannot stand people who talk about things as if they know them when, in fact, they know absolutely nothing about them.

Safari uses WebKit which has better standards support than Firefox. Currently Opera and Safari are the top dogs in the browser world when it comes to standards. The WebKit nightly builds are very quick too which is promising for Konquerer and Safari users.

It's probably related to Firebug. Firebug can cause slowdowns on certain pages. While VBForums does throw a JavaScript exception (what component is attempting to use Location.toString()?), it shouldn't slow anything down. It works very quick for me in Firefox.

I wasn't debating browsers. It just had to be said. My post wasn't about browser preference but about correcting bad information. Feel free to delete all related posts. I just wanted the information corrected

Do you think I care much? I wouldn't use IE7 either - waiting on IE8 which apparently must be backword compaitble with IE6 (they learnt their mistakes quick).

IE7 has 3 rendering engines. A quirks engine that should work about the same as IE7's, IE7's standard engine and IE8's standards engine. Unfortuantely if you want to use IE8's standards engine you'll have to add a meta tag or http header for it to work.

So no additional IE6 support (thankyfully). I'm hoping one day they cut the cord with the old and continue with the new.

Re: Firefox + VBForums causing freezes?

I'm afraid you're missing major point here - world was not created today. There are tons upon tons apps developed for IE6 and such and therefore backward compatibility is such an important piace in the puzzle.
Backward compatibility does not break new product - it rather makes it stronger and more flexible.

    Regards.

As was said earlier - this is not the place to debate browsers (either this thread, or this forum).

If you want to have a discussion about browsers, post a new thread in an appropriate forum.

Re: Firefox + VBForums causing freezes?

I'll say it's region specific then, because I tried it out by disabling and re-enabling firebug and the observations led me to believe that it was firebug's fault. It was generating up to 23 errors for each page on vbforums.com that I visited. Do you guys get about 20+ errors on vbforums.com pages?

I'm also hoping that you're not getting as many with firebug installed. See where I'm heading?

PS: Please stop comparing browser sizes, I'm feeling a major case of deja vu coming on. Again.

Re: Firefox + VBForums causing freezes?

Once again, i have experienced this issue in firefox and I DO NOT USE FIREBUG. I have never used it. I have never experienced the issue with one tab open. Usually 3 or 4. It may be some kind of generic error with the way plugins are used?
