Can't get XP to install - Help Please

I have a PACKARD BELL EASYNOTE F5280 HR, from my previous problems i have decided to reinstall windows xp.

It gets past the basic installation with the blue screen, but when it gets to the graphical part it either crashes or a BSOD comes up saying something like:
    IRQL LESS OR NOT EQUAL

Im 90% sure that this is not a memory problem as i have tested both modules with memtest and they both work fine in the pc im using at the moment, i think its a driver issue

Does anybody know where i can buy or download a recovery cd.

When i was doing work experience at GMP we used an xp cd which would install everything from the basic setup (blue screen one) on to the pcs, does anybody know how i could make one of these.

    All help and advice appreciated,
    thanks in advance,
    Chris1990.

Re: Can't get XP to install - Help Please

From what ive been reading online, this could be cause by a hardware failure somewhere so look for any conflicts..can u manage to log in in safe mode at all?

im not sure whether you can just use any other cd apart from the bkup cd they shud have given u when u bought ur pc...apart from this all i knw is you can make ur own recovery disk providing u have xp running :S

Have u tried resetting the bios? (taking the battery out), sometimes this helps...(im not in best condition atm so plz forgive me if this didnt make sense...)

Re: Can't get XP to install - Help Please

I've asked around for a cd at college, but no one has the master disks.

I have got the setup to go abit further by turning of my usb ports in the bios, but it still gets stuck on installing devices.

Does anybody know why it gets stuck, could it be the cd becuae its abit scratched. Also i cant remove any hardware because its a laptop.

Re: Can't get XP to install - Help Please

The scratches could have damaged some of the files on it. So that could be the main reason why it wont install xp. Having said that though, it depends on how badly scratched it is...

Re: Can't get XP to install - Help Please

i've got it fixed now by a mate who knows more about pcs, the cpu was damaged by the virus, i think. Basically it was over heating. I'm now looking for some software which will turn my fan on permamently, them green people think it saves energy by turnin the fan off when not needed. I'll post a link to the software when i find it.

    thanks for all your help
