Workflow in the manufacturing sector.
Was probably a 2 or 3 person effort but they were too tight so they paid me for 18 months. At project completion they wanted to reskill me with Unix and Perl so we mutually agreed to go our own ways. They head hunted me 2 years later to get them out of the poo when they tried to replace my system.
God bless undocumented code!

Hahahaha!!!!! The fools. Most people think they can replace any existing system that had been done with a lot of effort very easily.

Re: Longest project you ever made in your life
Project was started 2-3 years before I was hired, I worked on it for another 5 years, and now almost 2 years after I quit I got word that they found someone to actually buy the product.
So what's that, like 18 years?

About six months from start to finish.

Re: Longest project you ever made in your life
5 years - specs kept changing - ugly moving target. I was starting to lose my shirt big time!
It went from no project manager to a consultant - that they then fired - that they then re-hired as an employee! And then fired him again!
That led to the creation of a new position - CIO! He came from a different industry and then they decided that a new vendor could come along and start from scratch and give them what "they wanted!". That was supposed to take 18 months to implement. 12 months into it now and they keep pushing back the go-live for phase 1!
I just sit back and watch in amazement

I'm currently working on a project to create a Van Stokum cylinder. The only problem is it's going to take forever.

Corporate loan management. Initial development probably should have taken maybe 2-3 years tops, but it was one of the most horribly managed projects that I have ever been a part of.

You must be feeling worthless. If you're not, you should.

Not anymore.
I knew the project was crap, but I still got paid. That's all I cared about at the time.

Re: Longest project you ever made in your life
Thanks for your input guys.
I am currently formulating numerous excuses in case any form of manager asks why my project takes too long to finish.
It seems that:
1. Any project starting from scratch takes more than a year to finish.
2. There are more fools in the company that mismanages the project. (I am also surprised at this one.)
If there are any more excuses you can advise me please do so post here.
I also welcome insane excuses.

HR (Human Resources) System
1.) The system records all employees information. This will act as a mother information for other future systems like centralized employee name, employee number, years of experience and all sorts of information regarding an individual who works in the company.
DTR (Daily Time Record) System
1.) The system records all employees attendances in the database and processes all those who are absent, late, and undertime. Usually DTR is required by payroll to process total number of hours worked so that their salary will be in accordance to the number of days they have worked.
Hope this explains everything.
