It'll work if people find a cheaper way to generate electricity. But if they're burning coal to generate more electricty, it could be around the same cost as buying a gallon of gas.

If you plug it in you aren't getting "miles per gallon." It may even be an inefficient hack for all we know. The question is how many miles does it get per gallon when the consumed electricity is expressed in gallons of gas needed to generate and transport it over the grid.

Could be 5 miles per gallon.
