Holiday Calender

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a decent Employee Holiday Calender. A open source one would be best (.Net or PHP) But we dont mind paying. Anyone point me to a good link?

I would be surprised if you find one.
Problem is "holliday calendar" cannot be "generic" and it depends on so many things so it quite often gets too complicated to implement.
Most businesses observe all national holidays, some only few but there are businesses that cannot observe any holiday at all.
There are also religious holidays that are not easy to calculate - most of them are "moon fases" based ... and so on ...
Most often HR person just enters all holidays directly in the company calendar and employees are getting notified via email before current year ends.

Hi,
i have created one of these in Access 97.

I had a look around and there was no freeware application that i could find.

i believe we are now looking at an overall resource planning application called "Work Force Management" i am not sure who created the software.

as stated anual leave is so different for every company and thus each of these type of apps tend to have differences.

Yeah, we use Outlook on Exchange to schedule people's calendars. Anyone can look up when we're free or in a meeting and so on.

Theoretically, so do we, but failing to update one's calendar is far more common than not, so everyone has kind of learned not to depend on this too much.

Exchange public calendars are great but if you dont use it then you have to use something. If you dont use something then no one will know where everybody is or where the party is at.

Yep, I've been at 2 companies and both have had separate software allowing employees to book time off (Not public holidays)

No problem looks like I'll have to start from scratch!

But seriously, is it cause you have stuff on your private claendar and have trouble updating the public calendar?

It's more a case of forgetting that it exists. I would forget that our timesheet software existed too, if its purpose wasn't to ensure that I get paid.

yeah, i don't use my calendar for anything work related.

I used to but since i moved to a smaller office there is no need.

How is your booking software going to work ?

The one i built was a phased authorisation process. it was for a call center. The team manager had to authorise the leave (Phase 1) and then to resource planning manager had to authorise it (Phase 2).

I used Outlook to send e-mails to the team manager and the resource planner each time anual leave was booked. I also agreed a service level agreement that the response would be handled within 24 hours of the request being submited.

to be honest i implemented the application and then left the dept however i believe that there are no major issues with the applicaiton.
