Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Actually I believe that after the service pack 3 Microsoft will get back to supporting the Windows XP for it has been the best OS they've made so far. Windows vista is a hopeless case.

OS of the year 2007 was still Microsoft Windows XP, and vista is getting the worst reviews ever

Oh and btw they've been working on SP3 for about a year now

I'm hoping it includes the VB6 SP6 runtimes and add Vista's system resource protection features so people can't overwrite important components from a bad installer.

well i'm hoping they DON'T include ANYTHING vista contains. What kind of crap is this darkening the screen and making me confirm i want to do something as simple as go to the control panel? "Are you sure you want to change your wallpaper confirm/deny?" Anyway, since vb6 isn't supported anymore, they probably will release a patch that makes it break all previous working vb programs. That's just how they are.

Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Since XP SP2 added changes to fully support changes in the VB6 SP6 runtime, and they've made a commitment to supporting VB6 SP6 programs in Vista for its lifetime, and Windows 2008 comes with the VB6 SP6 runtimes and core components... I think we're safe there when XP SP3 comes out.

The UAC stuff got put in there because people insist on running as an admin user, then whining about Windows being insecure. Be careful what you wish for (or cry about)! It might get "fixed."

SP-3 is still not something I would suggest installing until the final release of it comes out. If i remember correctly, SP-3 isnt due to come out until the end of first Q of this year.

Vista SP-1 is due by end of 2nd Q of this year and changes teh activation rules so if you dont activate it within the time limit you wont get features disabled.

Windows Server 2008 has the UAC in it too as well as some Vista features making it look and act like Vista!

well that is one feature i wish they had stolen from apple. You could easily go into system properties and look around all you wanted. Every screen has a little padlock on it. You can't change anything if it is locked and it takes an admin password to unlock it.
