[RESOLVED] VB6 Install on Vista
Ok so i have this Vista box, all updated and everything ready to go....
so here's the problem, everytime i try to install VS6.0 with everything set to install, everything except VC++, only VB, whatever, it doesnt seem to matter, i get an error at the end of the installation telling me that it was unable to register Javasign.dll in the registry.
So then it tells me the setup was not complete, but VB6 works just fine!
So when i try to install SP6, it says it cant find any installed products, and exits the installation....
Anyone know how to get VB6 to install correctly so i can install VB6SP6?

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
Did you run the setup as Administrator? Turn off the UAC? What version of Vista? Full or Upgrade?

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
But even under an admin account you stil need to tell it to run as an admin by right clicking the setup and selecting run as administrator.

I did that, i always run every program by doing that.. i hate the vista restrictions, i have too many problems by not doing that..
Do i need to uninstall java or something and try to install it again?

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
I dont recall installing java or anything. When I installed mine on a fresh full install of Vista it wwent in with no issues.
What version of VS/VB 6? Pro/Enterprize etc? Could the CD have a bad spot on it that may be creating this issue?

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
its VS6 Enterprise Edition.
I know the CD isnt messed up, i thought of that and tried installing it on another computer, and it went just fine.. Its something with this computer! It was fully updated with all the windows updates, i installed all the programs on this computer it was supposed to have, and VS6 was last to be installed.
Some program i had installed wanted me to install the newest version of Java, so i installed that too.. and this is a Java file? Maybe maybe? I guess i'll try to remove java then try to install VS6 again. maybe that will do somethin

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
Could be the order of installation. Uninstall that program that used or made you update java and then install.
If that doesnt work then check out this link.

Re: VB6 Install on Vista
Cool, but remember that by deleting the dll fake file you will get prompted at some time to update java which may or may not break VB 6. My best guess would be that it wouldnt as it looks more like an installation issue then a issue with running vb 6.

I think its going to be fine, the main issue i was having was finishing the installation, so i couldnt update VB at all. Now its installed and fully updated to SP6. So if it wants to update java, it can try, it if fails i'll look for a fix, if i cant find one i'll just deal with not having java for VB until it starts causing problems, but supposedly java is mostly for InterDev. I know ive never used it.

Re: [RESOLVED] VB6 Install on Vista
Yes, but there may be other programs that will use Java and want to update it for you. Post back if any of those updates break VB 6. I'm be curious to know.
