modem Communication
Hello,
Is the method of comunicating Via modem a Black art of sorts?
I have been looking about for days trying to figure out how to dial a list of telephone number and the answers to any questions i ahve posted have been thin on the ground. i thank those who have helped me on here!
Is it because this is no longer a common use for communicating?
How do all those call centers call the lists they have for marketing?
Is the reason i am not getting many answers because of war dialing ? I have a legitimate reson for dialing the numbers i have, are people scared to put the advice on a public forum incase it gets used for alternative purposes ?
I have found that there is a market out ther for active X components as quite a few sites are selling these for around £50 ($100 USD)
why cant we get these for free?
many thanks
Daivd

Re: modem Communication
I suspect the problem is that you are asking the question a decade too late. I might have dealt with this that far back, but by this point I don't have a modem in any of my computers, nor do I know anybody who has one. I believe the knowledge you are looking for is fading from the common pool, which means that you'll get few responses.
I vaguely remember that there was something called TAPI, which might have something to do with modem control. In general, I would expect that there might well be some general examples, but it could be that each modem exposed its own set of protocols for dealing with its own hardware, in which case you are somewhat hosed. This may not be like the internet, or ethernet, where the hardware in use is transparent to the code needed to use it.
My usual boring signature: Nothing
