Resolved -Resolved- Major saving issues (of a bumbling idiot)

I've been transporting my programs from home to school via a flash drive, but today I've had some major issues saving and some gigantic losses of work.

Basically, I put in the flash drive, open my program and work away. I probably put in 8 hours of work tonight on one program, very regularly pressing "save all". Well, VB crashes, and I try to reopen from the drive to see "Date Modified: 12/01/2007"

This has happened twice. Once at home and once at school. Is there any way to recover all of my lost progress and what am I doing wrong when saving? Thanks.

*EDIT* Did three searches, and found the program on the third complete search with no path and in no folder. Where the hell is it saving to?

*EDIT* zzzz found the file on my drive. Was hidden for some reason, literally hidden. Had to show hidden files and there it was... hiding. Whatever. This thread can be closed seeing how I solved my own problem.

Use flash drives for transporting only, not as HDDs. Even a primordial cosmic ray could flip a bit on those so regular backups are really useful. Takes 30 sek to zip stuff.

I can use my flash drives as true random generators - every time I unleash scandisk on them I get read and write errors on different sectors. Sometimes none.

Word seems to hang occasionally when reading / saving directly to them too (like the floppy disk bug back then).

Oh, to be sure! I have two copies of my program (although an older version, at the time of this incident) on my PC here at home and three on my PC at school...

But then again, what good do copies do when they are out of date...?

You can use your flash drive as a drive, and use each hdd (at work and at home) as backup repositories. This will need a versioning program, such as Source Safe, which is built-in to the VS IDE, to manage and synchronise your versions...
