    XNA Forum?

Now that Game Studio 2.0 is about to come out and it has some very exciting features including access to XBox and Windows Live networks, can we get a forum just for XNA / Game Studio? Since it's a C# only language, perhaps it would go under the C# section?

    Kudos!

Great idea, though i think its own forum might be more suitable, people might not see the child forum since it is in smaller text.

    Re: XNA Forum?

I've always liked the idea of an XNA forum, but I belive that this question was raised before and got a no. I hope this time will be different, since XNA has grown alot.

It's an IDE though, that'd be like a separate forum for VS 2003, 2005, 2008 and so on.

Thats true. Though I dont think XNA questions fit in the C# section at all, you'd have to be lucky if someone with knowledge of XNA finds your thread.
I guess we could stick with the already existing Games & Graphics forum, and use [XNA] tags on the thread titles.

XNA is not an IDE though. Visual Studio is an IDE and that doesn't change with XNA.

XNA is a framework that enables Windows and XBox 360 to use one codebase to develop games and has access to some cool stuff like XBox / Windows Live.

Sure, Game Studio is an IDE based on Visual C# Express but XNA is an entirely different beast.

I would love to submit a ton of code to an XNA Codebank.

Problem with that is that's related specifically to VB 6 and earlier game development (obviously it's used for more but it's categorized as such). C# questions should not go in there.

    Re: XNA Forum?

We already have Games & Graphics and Codebank – Games sections.
Are there enough XNA articles posted in these already to warrant giving the topic its own section?

Even though they're in the classic VB section? That doesn't make sense to me.

    Re: XNA Forum?

It is not in the "Classic VB" section, it is in the "VB" section.

While it could be argued that the Game & Graphics forum (and a few others) should be moved to the "General" section, this site is primarily for VB.

Even with that minor technicality, we are happy for C/C# questions to go in there, as are many others - Many people already post C/C# questions in that forum, and other people go in with appropriate replies.

    Let's see,

    XNA Game Studio

XNA Studio is an integrated development environment (IDE) for development of games. [4] It is currently available in one version: XNA Game Studio Express. Microsoft had a version of XNA GSE targeted for professional developers - XNA Game Studio Professional which is now completely replaced by XNA Game Studio 2.0. [5]

What you're saying is equivalent to calling .Net an IDE when it's a framework that's most commonly used in an IDE.

    XNA Game Studio != XNA

Honestly, VBForums should have a new subset of forums something along the lines of "Gaming / Interactive" or something similar. Then they could put their games forum there (they allow non-vb questions but it's still under the VB section which doesn't make any sense to me). Since XNA is very .Net like (more so than the DirectX .Net libraries) in that it allows for rapid game development, I thought it would be a great idea to have a forum dedicated to it (just like we do for ASP .Net and Mobile development... they both use the same language and frameworks behind the scenes but they're more specific).

Fyi, Game Studio uses VS 2005. 2008 support is sometime off after the release of Game Studio.

Yeah that's a pretty cool framework. I think it's supposed to be what XNA is to C# but for C++. No XBox support but it's definately cool.
