Installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 90 Day Trial
I had no idea what forum I should post this in, but im really stumped, I found a 90-day trial for the Visual Studio Profession Edition, however it downloads as a .img file, I read the addition information on the download page, and it said this:
(The link is below)
An ISO-13346 image file is an exact representation of the original installation media, including the content and the logical format. The most common use of an image file is to write it to a blank DVD-R resulting in an identical copy of the original DVD including file name and volume label information. ISO Images can also be extracted directly to a file location by many DVD-R utilities.
I have used Nero StartSmart to burn it to a DVD-R and nothing happens? I am quite confused, everytime I click to open the .img file (from disc or from desktop) it says 'To install this program, windows needs to know what program created it' etc... I tried that, with no help
I am quite confused and would really appreciate anyone telling me what I can do, I looked on the microsoft forums, and they had nothing for help for installing it...
The link for it is here: The Link
It is a couple of lines down, and it is called 'Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 90-Day Trial', I have not been able to figure out how to install it

you need to "Burn Disk from Image" not just burn the file to a disc.

There are programs out there for mounting an iso image to your hard drive so you dont have to burn a cd/dvd. Then it acts like a disk in your drive that you can run and install the program from.
Just another option.

and sometimes those Virtual Drive programs are looked for by other programs and won't run if you have them installed..its not too common, but it can happen.

I would suggest Slysoft Virtual CloneDrive. Free, simple, works on XP and Vista.

Thanks all, however all I had to do was change the file extension of my program to .iso and then burn to image, and it worked... (.img files don't burn properly, as a .iso file should)

nero is good enaugh man. but why do you want to burn a trial that can only be used for 90 days. I think the express edition is more than enaugh. But if you really wan't the pro edition. download it elsewhere.

Re: Installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 90 Day Trial
kevin hash are you suggesting to download an illegal copy of VS Pro?
I believe that is against the rules of the forum
http://www.jupitermedia.com/corporate/privacy/aup.html
Express Edition has most things that alot of people want but if you do need to do some more advance stuff and want it all in one package like you want good installers but don't want an external package then yes you will need the Pro version however you can achieve pretty much anything with Express Edition which is free and a few external free packages.
Visual Studio 2008 Professional is soon to be released so if you wanted the latest I would wait for that or you can get the Express Editions of 2008 now I believe by following this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/
I have been using the Express Editions for just over a year now and its suited me just fine. I will however be getting the Professional Version of 08 when it comes out through my company as now I am starting to work on bigger projects and I have a need for using a bit of a better version.

No unless your a MSDN subscriber. I beleieve that Express Edition has been released but only MSDN Subscribers can currently get the Professional and Team Edition. It should be released to the public by the end of the month though I think. I may be wrong though.

Correct, but if you buy a MSDN subscription (get the sub level that includes VS) you can gain access to download it now.

Re: Installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 90 Day Trial
I wouldn't think you have MSDN and not know about it its very expensive. I think you are think about the MSDN Library which is sort of an encyclopedia for the Visual Studio Langauges where as the MSDN is a subscription that you pay microsoft for an account where you can access certain materials and software before its publically available but it is very very expesive like I was looking at one of the MSDN VS Team edition subscriptions and it was £8000 and something. How they actually sell them at that rate is beyond me but there is some really useful stuff on there. Not that I have got an account lol, beyond my budget.
But there is an Express version of the MSDN library that comes with Visual Studio Express Editions or I guess there is a bigger version if you buy the Pro version of VS. Hope that clears things up.

Re: Installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition 90 Day Trial
The majority of msdn subscribers are companies. Renewals of your first subscription is about 50% so its more affordable in your second year.
