    Resolved [RESOLVED] .NET 2.0 or 3.X ?

I am currently using 2.0 as i am still learning and don't start my cause till next year and a possible job (not 100% yet) and with all thus hype about VS2008 and .NET 3.5 i am thinking it might be time for me to upgrade? Still programming more as a hobbyist but need to start furthering my learning since school is now finished. Should i upgrade?

Oh an also do i have to uninstall the 2.0 framework if i do and VS2005?

Yes, you should upgrade your skills. There's some of 3.5 technology that IMO. might be useful in the future like WCF and WF, tough I'm still doubt about Linq. You can keep your VS2005 because there should be no compatibility issue just like VS2005 and VS2003 or below...

Do i have to uninstall the old .NET framework though? Is there even a way? I cant seem to find anything.

Edit: and also uninstall the VS2005 express editions?

You can run every version of VS on a single system (VS 6, VS 2002, VS, 2003, VS 2005, VS 2008).

IMO, if you install bothyou can learn new stuff while still being able to utilize the current technology that the vast majority of employeers are using. No one will be using 2008 (just released yesterday) for some time still.

But is there any real reason to be using the old technology? Especially in my case because by the time i am competent enough to be working professionally 2008 will be mainstream and the next version might be on its way.

Oh and the .NET framework do i have to uninstall older versions?

No, its actually better to keep all frameworks versions as you may end up getting an app that requires one of them eventually.

But it will take 1-2 years for mainstream to be using it in their production apps etc. Not every employeer will be immediatly "upgrading" their current apps to 2008 as its an extra cost and if the ap isnt running on Vista then you loose out on 50% of the benefits of 2008.

But that brings up my next question, is it time to move to Vista?

Its a transitional time right now as Vista expectations were lower then forcasted. Some people have been downgrading to XP. If you have a second system or Virtual PC you would do better to have both, for now at least.
